One of the greatest gifts my father gave me when I was a child is a piece of truth now deeply ingrained to my very core:
“You can be anything you want to be.”
He told me so often, and with such conviction, that I believed him. So confidence has rarely been an issue, in terms of my professional endeavors anyway. The challenge for me, with seemingly unlimited options, has been making a choice.
Okay, I can be anything I want, but what do I want to be?
Truth be told, I knew early on that I wanted to be a teacher. To this day I regret allowing influences outside of myself to sway me from this dream because “You’ll never make any money at it.” The thing is, by not choosing the path of my passion, I spent college and many years thereafter making educational and professional choices that never really resonated with me. As a result, I have jumped from job to job, career path to career path. Ironically, as a result, my financial health has suffered.
Who knows. Maybe if I had taken Joseph Campbell’s advice and followed my bliss I would be the wealthiest teacher in the world!
With this blog, and some other endeavors that I will share here as time goes by, I am migrating more toward the role that comes most naturally to me — sharing knowledge that has the power to transform our lives.
As for more traditional specifics “about me,” in college I studied English and theater, and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Communications with an emphasis in radio and television. I’ve been a cashier, waitress, pool attendant, marketing assistant, bookstore assistant manager, tutor, substitute teacher, children portrait photographer, proofreader, editor, direct mail and SEO copywriter, internet marketer and book promoter.
Today I am still a couple of those things, but mostly I am a writer, environmentalist, vegan, animal welfare advocate and social media consultant intent on applying the law of attraction to these endeavors, all of which it turns out have something to do with teaching after all
With gratitude,
